Through restaurant industry shifts and changing the way we eat, we can revise the current food system model to be sustainable.

WHY REVISE THE FOOD SYSTEM?
The current model is based on ecologically destructive agriculture practices and large scale distribution chains. It is prone to disturbances and food shortages, which has been witnessed multiple times since 3/2020. This system model also focusses on conventional farming (glyphosates, pesticides) and genetically modified ingredients. Design is for maximum profits, which has a side effect of producing inferior foods with questionable nutritional value.

Reinventing the food system to be sustainable and connected on a regional level is the future of food.

What does a new era food system look like?

.Regionally grown fruits and vegetables
.Seasonal eating & menu planning
.Regional ingredient sourcing
.Small distribution chains
.Smaller polyculture farms
.Sourcing of local food products
.Use of regenerative agriculture, biodiversity and/or
permaculture in crop production
.Hemp & other resilient crops as a food
.Organically grown (or equivalent)
.Farmer's Markets & Community Gardens
.Community food security
.Eating more plant based foods
.Protection of farm land from development
.Land management practices that are carbon-sequestering, resource-protecting, and self-sustaining
.Pollinator gardens & Bee friendly

Where does Herban Kitchen Fit

Changing the way we eat
Skills & know how for a mindful kitchen are taught through interactive social media platforms, live Chef demos, and writing publications.

Hemp Foods Development
Hemp as a food is an amazing superfood, versatile ingredient, and arguably the most sustainable crop grown. It regenerates soil, easily adapts to diverse environments, and is naturally bug resistant. Hemp farming brings much needed money into rural areas and is helping to stimulate local economies. Education about hemp based foods and recipes for using this ingredient helps bring more demand for production.
